Aerobie AeroPress Coffee and Espresso Maker

Product Description

The AeroPress is a completely new kind of coffee press that brews absolutely delicious, rich coffee without bitterness. In one minute, the AeroPress will make 1 to 4 cups of American or espresso style coffee. Coffee brewed in an AeroPress is rich but smooth for good technical reasons. The first and most important reason is brewing speed. Coffee yields its rich flavors quickly. From when you add hot water to when you are ready to drink, the AeroPress takes about 30 seconds, just like a fine espresso machine. The time required to fill a drip coffee maker pot or the steeping time required for a traditional coffee press is measured in minutes, not seconds, and because of that, they brew bitter, acidic coffee. When brewing coffee with an AeroPress, you use very hot but not boiling water, you use finely ground coffee, and the filter prevents any grit from getting into your cup, all of which are additional important reasons AeroPress brewed coffee is so remarkably delicious. Amazon frustration-free packaging

  • Unique coffee/espresso maker uses total immersion and gentle pressure to produce coffee with extraordinarily rich flavor
  • Makes American style coffee or an espresso-style shot perfect for use in lattes or cappuccinos
  • Because of the lower temperature and short brew time, the acid level of the brew is much lower than conventional brewers
  • Micro-filtered coffee so pure and particle-free that it can be stored for days as a concentrate
  • Ships in Certified Frustration-Free Packaging

5.0 out of 5 stars The best solution for brewing a single cup, August 24, 2010
I have owned the AeroPress for over two years and, judging by the number of filters I have used so far, I have brewed about 600 cups of coffee with it. It has become an essential part of my daily routine. It is fast, easy, and the grounds just pop out into the trash or compost. But all this has already been covered in these reviews. Here are a few additional points worth considering:

-It can brew a few cups of coffee in just a few minutes and make each cup as weak or as strong as my guest wants.

-If you are expecting the coffee to taste like espresso or like French-pressed coffee, remember that the AeroPress uses a paper filter. It filters out much of the oil that would otherwise be present. I prefer my coffee this way but others may not. Think of it as the best drip coffee maker in the world.

-Unlike an espresso machine or a French press, you can grind the coffee in a basic blade grinder because a consistent grind isn't necessary. In a French... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Coffee the way you like it, September 24, 2006
By
I did many hours of research into coffee makers before deciding on an Aeropress. I learned that several factors influence the coffee you end up with: the temperature of the water, the way the water mixes with the coffee, and how the coffee is extracted from the grounds. I found it difficult to find knowledgeable reviews of the various coffee machines, so I decided to take control of my coffee preparation. The aeropress allows you to control how hot the water is and how long you let it mix with the coffee.

The whole coffee making process is explained in the products instructions.

1. Insert a filter and some coffee into the unit. A coffee scoop and some filters are included with the aeropress, they recommend 1 scoop of coffee per cup.

2. Heat the right amount of water. Markers are printed on the side of the Aeropress to show the recommended amount of water for between 1 and 4 (the maximum) espresso shots. The manufacturers recommend water between... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Hands down the world's greatest cup of coffee, no kidding, January 24, 2007
By
PearCider (Sacramento, CA) - See all my reviews
***Update 3/15/11*** It's been over 4 years, and I still use this coffee maker every single day. I'm STILL on my first packet of filters, and still in love. I rinse the filters out and reuse once or twice per filter. And no, I haven't flipped it over. Yet.

As a certified coffee snob, I thought it didn't get better than french press. Fugetaboudit! The Aeropress renders a sweet, flavorful, impeccable Americano every time that will change your expectations forever. I have a drip coffee machine, a french press and a Krups espresso maker, and they are all officially retired thanks to the Aeropress.

I can't say enough about the results, but note that the Aerobie is more time-consuming to use than either french press or drip coffee makers, more comparable to espresso makers. Well worth it, mind you, but NOT as quick and painless as the manufacturer would have you believe. This product makes espresso by forcing air through the grounds using a syringe-type plunger... 2.0 out of 5 stars Not impressed., May 1, 2009
This review is from: Medelco 8 Cup Glass Stovetop Percolator (Kitchen)
I was looking for a small coffeemaker that I could store under the counter. I wanted something small, easy to use, and easy to clean. I bought this percolator at K-mart for around ten dollars. I am now shopping for a new percolator because:

- Glass is very thin, people get freaked out when I tell them I put it on the stove. It makes creaky sounds sometimes and I'm scared it's going to burst on the stove one of these days.
- The holes in the basket are large, so you have to use very coarse ground coffee. We buy our coffee pre-ground, and it is always too fine. It gets into the coffee, which bugs me a little.
- It's easy to clean, but otherwise awkward to use. Pulling the basket out is treacherous, and all the interior parts are plastic. I have burned myself pulling the basket out.
- The inside parts are all plastic, and I'm uncomfortable putting plastics on the stove-top. I would prefer an all-glass solution, such as the Chemex carafe... Read more

I used to have a glass percolator when percolators were the only way to make coffee. This is made just the way the old ones were and I love it. If you've only used a drip coffee maker, this will take a little getting used to, but it makes excellent coffee.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great - minimizes grounds in coffee., December 23, 2010
This review is from: Melitta U S A Inc 628354 White Disc Coffee Filter
These Melitta Disc Coffee Filters for percolators do a great job in reducing the amount of grounds ending up in the brewed coffee brewed with a percolator. I use them with my Farberware percolator and they make a noticeable difference in improving the taste of the coffee by eliminating the bitterness that the coffee grounds can cause.

These filters are especially helpful if your purchase pre-packaged ground coffee (instead of grinding your own coffee) because most pre-packaged ground coffees are ground too fine for percolators.

To get the best result with these filters, 1) be sure to use only one filter at a time (it's easy to accidentally use two or three filters together because these filters are very thin and tend to stick together in the package), and 2) be sure to wet the filter after placing the filter inside the percolator (but before adding the ground coffee) to help create a good seal.

Also, to avoid shipping charges, one can special... Read more

These work very well in our new percolator - it makes it easy to clean the used grinds from the container. Wouldn't make a pot of coffee without using one of these, that's for sure!
